Berlin Seminar 2017

Mar 26 2017 - Mar 30 2017

Berlin Seminar 2017

63rd Annual Berlin Seminar for American Fulbright Grantees
“The essence of intercultural education is the acquisition of empathy—the ability to see the world as others see it, and to allow for the possibility that others may see something we have failed to see, or may see it more accurately. The simple purpose of the exchange program . . . is to erode the culturally rooted mistrust that sets nations against one another. The exchange program is not a panacea but an avenue of hope . . .”
- Senator J. William Fulbright in The Price of Empire, 1989
I. PURPOSE
March 26 – 30, 2017 Ever since the first American Fulbrighters came to Germany, the Fulbright Commission has arranged a mid-year seminar enabling grantees to get together, share experiences, and discuss the accomplishments and challenges of the past semester. The seminar also gives grantees the chance to experience the “New & Old Berlin.”
For the 9th time about 200 German Fulbrighters of the 2017-2018 program year will have their orientation meeting in Berlin coinciding with the Berlin Seminar 2017. Special events will allow the two Fulbright groups to meet, interact and start networking.
II. PROGRAM
A variety of events, panels and discussions will focus on political, economic, academic and cultural topics. A Fulbright ceremony followed by a reception will bring you together with people from various backgrounds. A farewell party will be the concluding highlight. A detailed program schedule will be part of our Berlin Letter II. The seminar leaves you with some time to venture out on your own and experience the diversity and history of Berlin.
Ku’damm
Accommodations will be provided for four nights at the MotelOne Berlin-Tiergarten near the famous Ku’damm.
