There's no view like a castle view. Add the smell of salt water on the wind and you'll find two happy Marchetti girls.
When we went to Giant's Causeway on the tour, we stopped at the castle but didn't have time to explore it. It is so easy to get there - a quick train ride from Belfast to Carrickfergus and a straight walk about three blocks from the train station to the castle.
Here's the start in Belfast with Wolfie instead of Chicky Wicky.
This is a Stena Line ferry. I really, really, really want to go on one. Maybe a quick jaunt to Scotland?
Yo.
This guy is "on the throne". Hee!
The welcome center had cool toys and chain mail.
She keeps wanting them, but can never eat much.
From Visit Northern Ireland:
Carrickfergus Castle is a Norman castle in Northern Ireland, situated in the town of Carrickfergus in County Antrim, on the northern shore of Belfast Lough. Besieged in turn by the Scots, Irish, English and French, the castle played an important military role until 1928 and remains one of the best preserved medieval structures in Ireland.
For more than 800 years, Carrickfergus Castle has been an imposing monument on the Northern Ireland landscape whether approached by land, sea or air. The castle now houses historical displays as well as cannons from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
There is limited disabled access for wheelchair users. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
