High Tea

This morning Shirley and I walked Vivian to school and you can imagine the high skipping steps that wee girl had as she proudly navigated the route.

Eileen took care of a grocery delivery and then we booked High Tea at The Merchant Hotel.

Let's back up to the morning...Shirley and I dropped off Vivian at school while Eileen accepted a grocery delivery. We were all pleased with my stroke of brilliance of buying milk that doesn't have to be refrigerated so when we are away for a while I don't have to worry about coming home to no milk to put in coffee.

Waiting for the taxi, our neighbors stopped to chat for a bit and said we should see the Jaffa fountain; I couldn't remember what it was, but as soon as we saw it I said, "OH! I didn't know that's what it's called!"

We went to Victoria Square where there's a dome. For zero dollars (or pounds), you can go to the top and look at Belfast.

A nice man offered to take our picture and he said that one thing we'd find about the people of Belfast is that they are all friendly and another thing is that the men are all handsome. I told that handsome man to get between these ladies for a picture!

Here is the leaning tower, Albert Memorial Clock. Erected in 1865 in Gothic style to commemorate Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert, it was tall enough at 113ft, to offer an excellent vantage point for at least one enterprising sightseer to get a birds-eye view of Titanic’s launch.
The best legend is that prostitutes waited for customers there and as they waited they leaned against the base.

Let's go have our next adventure..

Oh, look. Five Guys is everywhere.

The leaning girls of vacation:

St. George's Church

This is a cool alleyway

The girls at TK Maxx

I like to think this M is for Marchetti, not the Merchant Hotel. Please don't burst my bubble.

Even the bathrooms are beautiful!

Still the bathroom

A bathroom snug

Shirley is excited for her first High Tea

"Oh, my gosh! I can't believe what they just put on the table!"

Behold...

High Tea ended -- it was relaxing and delicious and here are the girls on the steps outside.

We took a taxi to Viv's school so Shirley and I could answer questions about school in America. The girls asked excellent questions, like:

  • Why are words different in America?
  • What subjects are taught in America?
  • Does a bus pick up children?
  • How many children are in classes?
  • Are there several schools in the district?
  • How many classes for each grade level?
  • What happens when children don't behave?
  • "So you could wear a party dress or just your regular clothes?"

Viv showed off a bit by climbing one of the trees at school. Shirley and Eileen were appropriately impressed.

We went to the cafe for hot chocolate and a gingerbread man.

On the way home Shirley showed Eileen her street!

By the end of the day, we were tired, so we settled in at the kitchen table.
