Ready for Takeoff!
Viv and I made a deal that the fair thing to do regarding travel choice is to alternate years. This year, Viv wanted to go to Scotland so our itinerary takes us to Dublin, where we'll revisit the birds in St. Stephen's Green, one of Viv's favorite things to do.
One of my former students is studying at Trinity in Dublin so -- believe it or not -- she is going to meet us at half six in the morning at St. Stephen's Green! Or maybe 7:00. Either way, it's early. It's been years since I've seen her and it hard to fathom she's all grown up. Tucked into one of our suitcases are some reminders from home so she can have a lovely afternoon eating Cheez-it's and relishing the delight that is processed comfort food.
We have one suitcase that is completely filled with 39 pounds of wee gifties for our Belfast friends and you know Viv and I had a a ball picking everything.
Did you know "American parties" are a thing? And there's a song! |

Viv says she's sure we got way more, but we can't remember right now. We focused on things we knew our friends couldn't get in the UK, like Funfetti cake mix and icing and Solo Cups and tongue scrapers. Quite a collection!
After our visit with Sara, we are going to take the train to Belfast, something we could do in our sleep since we've done it so often (and good thing because I'll be zonked).
Upon arrival in Belfast, we will high-tail it to The Wellington Park Hotel, where Viv first learned about chicken goujons from our friend Chris.

We are meeting Viv's friend from Victoria College Prep, her school in Belfast, at The Botanical Gardens
and we also want to go to Viv's favorite cafe, Caffe Nerro on the Lisburn Road and we will hopefully see the World's Best Barista, Laura.
In ten minutes, we head to Newark Airport. What do you think the chances are I'll be able to hog space in front of a television to watch the USA v. England match??
