Inquiry Projects

Inquiry Projects

My inquiry project is: Learning Community: Increasing Community Use of the School Site for Full Service Extended School Project

Overview: Cristi's Inquiry Project’s purpose is to encourage community mentoring and lifelong learning. One objective is to learn international best practices for successful community-based lifelong learning, such as those exemplified in Full Service Extended School, in order to implement a similar program in Lehighton, Pennsylvania. From the project, Cristi will develop a workplan that adapts Full Service Extended School to rural America. The content will target student achievement through a curriculum framework, assessment, materials, and resources. Cristi hopes to connect the local community and make the school the center of the town, able to be utilized by all members of the public for full engagement and lifelong learning. Additionally, the friends made through the collaborative project will establish a global community. When not attending classes and researching, Cristi will align with Northern Ireland’s education stakeholders, students, parents, teachers, and administrators to develop a manual her district can implement. One component Cristi hopes to make a reality is a student exchange program between Lehighton, Pennsylvania and Belfast, Northern Ireland in order to promote cross-cultural exchange and global friendships.
