Where in the World will Cristi and Vivian Be?



             




Queen's University Belfast is the facility I most wanted to partner with when I applied for The Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching because their work with Full Service Extended School is fascinating, comprehensive, and accessible. Prof Joanne Hughes has been instrumental in arranging for a space in The Centre for Shared Education, resources about coursework to take, colleagues to contact, and creating a solid foundation before I even arrive in Northern Ireland -- I will be able to hit the ground running. Hopefully I can contribute in a meaningful way because it feels very one-sided right now, that I'm taking, taking, taking without giving anything in return!

The accommodations are in place -- we will stay in Windsor Park!

The Accommodations office of Queen's University Belfast has been terrific to work with -- fast, easy, helpful, friendly, and professional.

The one concern I had about spending four months abroad was how to make Vivian safe and comfortable. One former Fulbrighter offered advice I hadn't considered: this is my dream - not Vivian's. So it's important to make sure the experience is not focused solely on my desires, but to make her experience meaningful in a seven-year-old way. Knowing we will arrive and have an apartment to go to gives me great relief because Vivian will be able to unpack, set up her room how she likes, personalise her space a bit - the first morning she wakes up hopefully she feels comfortable.
